Last week, the Li4Life consortium gathered in Brno for an inspiring and truly meaningful set of activities — two days filled with learning, open dialogue, and constructive reflection on the future of responsible lithium development in Europe.
On the morning of 26 November, partners visited the laboratories of Masaryk University, including the LA-ICP-MS and LIBS facilities at the Chemistry Department. This on-site visit offered the opportunity to observe first-hand the scientific work underpinning several parts of the project, and it served as a valuable reminder of the technical excellence and research capabilities supporting Li4Life.
In the afternoon, the consortium held the workshop “Li4LIFE: Workshop on Social Acceptance in Lithium Exploration and Mining.” Through expert presentations, a documentary screening, and open discussions, participants explored the complex challenges related to public acceptance, community engagement, land-use conflicts, and licensing experiences across Europe. The workshop highlighted the importance of integrating social dialogue and transparency into every stage of responsible lithium exploration and mining.
On 27 November, partners reconvened for the 1st Review Meeting, where all work packages were presented to the Project Officer and external reviewers. The meeting provided an overview of the progress achieved during the first reporting period — from ore sampling and smart sorting to green chemistry approaches, process upscaling, sustainability assessment, and business strategy. The constructive discussions that followed reinforced the consortium’s shared commitment to delivering a robust, sustainable and socially responsible European lithium value chain.
These two days in Brno captured the essence of Li4Life: strong collaboration, scientific excellence, and a deep collective responsibility towards Europe’s green transition. The consortium moves forward energised and confident, proud of the advancements made so far and fully committed to the next steps of the project.
We sincerely thank Masaryk University for hosting us and all partners and contributors for their active participation and dedication.
