Critical Raw Materials and Batteries

Critical Raw Materials and Batteries – a successful cross fertilisation and clustering event, organised for Li4Life by ISMC, was held in Oviedo on Tuesday 11th March 2025.

Over 60 experts and scientists attended in person and online to listen and discuss presentations from 11 speakers.

The first two sessions focused on the challenges and solutions on batteries outlined by 7 projects and Battery 2030+ initiative – all funded by Horizon Europe. (CICERO, Li4Life, Streams, Resilex, Metallico, Renovate, and Automat).

The third session featured a private sector viewpoint, providing an overview on Latin America and Lithium, presenting a case study on industrial energy storage systems, and concluding on methods for applying an effective LCA methodology to raw materials and batteries industry. (full agenda)

The event closed with a visit to ASRAM facility, the Asturias Raw Material Institute, to view the concrete results of Li4Life activities in the real life setting of the labs.

Thanks to the support of Battery2030+, the contributions of all the speakers and the of the University of Oviedo and department of mining for hosting the event and opening the ASRAM to attendees.
